PRODUCING SAND FROM NATURAL ROCK

Due to the annually increasing demand for sand and the finiteness of natural resources, there is a supply shortage for the ever-growing construction industry. There is now international talk of a sand shortage. Typically, sand is extracted from natural deposits, but these cannot meet the rising demand as not all naturally occurring sand is suitable for the construction industry.

In sand production, gravel and other rocks that occur in larger grain sizes are crushed down to usable grain sizes.

THE CHALLENGE - UNUSABLE DUST

The goal is to produce sand from gravel or crushed stone that resembles or matches the properties of natural sand.

The advantage of sand production through a crushing process over natural extraction from deposits is that crushed sand has more fracture edges, providing better static properties. However, the challenge lies in the significant amount of unusable dust produced during the creation of small fractions. This dust is subsequently disposed of, negatively impacting both the economic efficiency and ecological footprint.

OUR SOLUTION - A GENTLE CRUSHING PROCESS

Crush and Size Technology has developed a highly efficient way to produce coarse-grained sand with very low fine fractions (<0.063 mm) using its SGC technology. The SGC technology is a roller mill specifically designed for the production of smaller fractions.

The crushing process with the SGC is very gentle and energy-efficient. Due to the low rotational speed of the rollers, the grain is not shattered but broken through pressure crushing. As a result, the proportion of non-recyclable fine particles in sand production is far lower than with other methods.

In the production of coarse-grained sand, the material is processed in a circuit. Through the processing of the grains in the SGC, resulting in a cubical grain shape. This quality feature distinguishes the SGC technology from sand produced by impact crushers, where mostly splintered grain occurs. The SGC roll crusher produces high-quality sand with cubic grain shape, low energy consumption, and wear, making a valuable contribution to the conservation of natural resources.
